DIRECTORS

DAVID FLANAGAN

Executive Chairman

David originally qualified as a geologist at the WA School of Mines and has worked in the resources industry in Australia, Africa and Asia for the past 25 years.

In 2013 he was appointed Chancellor of Murdoch University.

He has been recognised with a number of industry and community awards including Governors Award for Giving 2011, Eisenhower Fellowship 2013 as well as Business Leader of the Year and Western Australian of the Year 2014.

CHERIE LEEDEN

Executive Director – Technology & Business Development

Cherie is a Geologist with more than 15 years’ experience in the multi commodity mining and mineral exploration. Cherie was a co-founder of Express Resources Ltd, which discovered the Company’s projects. She relocated to Mozambique in 2011 to peg and develop the Company’s current exploration portfolio. Cherie has extensive experience in exploration and resource development, across a range of commodities, in Africa, Australasia and the Americas. She has led teams in the discovery and resource development of several graphite, base metals, iron ore and coal resources, two of which are now in production. Previously Cherie has worked for LionOre, Rio Tinto, Strike Resources and Advaita Power Resources. Cherie holds a Bachelor of Science in Applied Geology degree with Honours from the Western Australian School of Mines and is a member of the Australian Institute of Geoscientists. Cherie has been involved in all facets of the Company’s operations and marketing since its incorporation in 2012.

GILBERT GEORGE

Non Executive Director

With a Masters Degree in Economics from a prestigious Japanese university, Gilbert has a wide range of experience in international business development and management.Formerly a senior bilingual Australian embassy official in Tokyo, he established his own business development consultancy in 1988. He is the principal of Gilbert George & Associates Pty Ltd which has provided strategic advice to companies in Australia, Africa, Japan, the US and Europe and been involved in over $950 million of new investment in Australia, in the resource, IT, food processing and service sectors. Resource experience includes coal iron ore, gold, uranium, oil and heavy mineral sands.He is the current Chairman of Mindax Limited (ASX: MDX) and holds directorships in the following unlisted companies: Bedley Holdings Pty Ltd, Victorian Wave Partners Pty Ltd, Ocean Power Technologies (Australasia) Pty Ltd and Governor Holdings Pty Ltd.

He was formerly a director of Tokyo Gas Australia Pty Ltd and Tepco Australia Pty Ltd – Australian subsidiaries of two of the world’s largest utilities. Gilbert does not expect that his directorships with other companies or other business activities will interfere with his ability to act as a Non-Executive Director of the Company. Gilbert fulfills the role of an independent director as he is free from any business or other relationship that could materially interfere with, or reasonably be perceived to materially interfere with, the independent exercise of his judgment.

BRETT SMITH

Non Executive Director

Brett has more than 25 years of experience as a geologist, manager, consultant and director in the resource exploration and mining industry throughout Australia and internationally. His industry experience is broad, dominated by exploration and resource definition.Mr. Smith is involved with several ASX listed companies and is currently the Managing Director of Corazon Mining Ltd (ASX: CZN), Non-Executive Chairman of Blackham Resources Ltd (ASX: BLK), and Non-Executive Director of Jacka Resources Ltd (ASX: JKA) and Cauldron Energy Ltd (ASX: CXU). These companies are involved in various commodities with operations all over the world, including Australia, Africa, North America and South America. Brett does not expect that his directorships with other companies or other business activities will interfere with his ability to act as a Non-Executive Director to the Company. Brett fulfils the role of an independent director as he is free from any business or other relationship that could materially interfere with, or reasonably be perceived to materially interfere with, the independent exercise of his judgment.

PAUL GLASSON

Non Executive Director

Paul has been based in China for 20 years and is currently Executive Chairman of Satori Investments, a China focused boutique investment advisory and private equity firm, board member of the Australian China Chamber of Commerce (Shanghai), and Life Member of the Australia China Business Council. Paul has lived in China since the mid-1990s and is widely known as one of the foremost experts on Chinese outbound investment, having been recognized with Deal of the Year by Mines and Money in 2014 for his origination and lead on the Baosteel-Aurizon on-market hostile takeover of Aquila, as well as being Young Leader of Asia by the Boao Forum for three years. Paul has been involved in many “first-of-a-kind” transactions in China’s history of outbound, and was also the Australia China Business Council’s key proponent in engaging with key Chinese government and enterprise from 2008-2014.

Paul has a Bachelor of Science from La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia.

STEVEN WOOD

Joint Company Secretary, Corporate Advisor – B.Com, CA

Steven joined Grange Consulting Group Pty Ltd in 2011, where he specialises in corporate advisory, company secretarial and financial management services. Steven is a Chartered Accountant, and since joining Grange he has been involved in various private and seed capital raisings as well as successful ASX listings, whilst also providing company secretarial and financial management services to both ASX and unlisted public and private companies. Steven was corporate advisor to Metals of Africa during its IPO on the ASX in 2012, and has remained with the Company since this formation in the role of Company Secretary and Corporate CFO.

TONY WALSH

Joint Company Secretary, General Manager – Special Projects

Tony Walsh has over 30 years’ experience in dealing with listed companies, ASX, ASIC and corporate transactions including 14 years with the ASX in Perth where he acted as ASX liaison with the JORC committee, four years as Chairman of an ASX listed mining explorer and as a director of a London AIM listed explorer. Tony is also currently Company Secretary of Atlas Iron Limited (ASX: AGO), Legend Mining Ltd (ASX: LEG) and S2 Resources Limited (ASX: S2R).

Tony is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Fellow of the Governance Institute of Australia, the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.

Tony has been appointed General Manager, Special Projects providing, corporate, investor relations and corporate compliance assistance for the Company.

ANDY CARDOSO

Project Director

Andy is a Mechanical Engineer with over 25 years’ experience in the mining and minerals industry, having worked in a number of African countries during his career. His experience includes leading teams on both brown and green field projects, from asset maintenance, to operations management, including General Management of a large mineral sands mine in Mozambique, and including project management experience in constructing and commissioning of various minor to large process plants. His project expertise includes a broad band of minerals from silicon, copper-nickel, gold, uranium, coal, copper and mineral sands. Andy comes from a Portuguese background, and with his multi-cultural experiences across Africa he enjoys interacting with the local communities to achieve the company goals and outcomes. Andy is registered as a full member of PMSA (Project Management South Africa).

 

REGINA MOLLOY

General Geology Manager

Regina is an Exploration Geologist with 22 years’ experience in a wide variety of commodities including gold, copper-gold, lead-zinc, iron ore, coal, potash and more recently graphite. Regina’s experience includes early stage exploration project generation, resource development, technical due diligence, concept-PFS-DFS studies through to mine development and reserve mine conversion work. Her continental project experience spans Australia, South America and she has spent the past 10 years working in Africa on projects in Mozambique, Ethiopia, Liberia-Guinea, Gabon, Tanzania and Zambia. Regina has worked for a variety of mine and exploration companies including Newcrest Mining, Inmet Mining, Homestake Gold (Barrick), BHP Billiton and Select Exploration.

GRAHAM FYFE

Project Manager – Spherical Graphite

Graham is a qualified Chemical Engineer, with over 25 years of experience in the mining and commodities processing industry. Graham’s diverse experience has been gained as both EPCM consultant for companies including Minnovo, Fluor, Murray and Roberts and Calibre Global and as an Owner’s executive for companies including De Beers, Rio Tinto, the Rare Earth Extraction Company and Bellzone. As an owner executive Graham gained experience with the listing and fund raising process of the London Stock Exchange, AIM market. Graham has also held directorship of companies in London, Singapore, South Africa and Australia

 

STEVE CANCIO-NEWTON

Exploration Manager

Steve is an Exploration Geologist with 17 years multi commodity experience gained across Australia, Asia and Africa. Steve has worked for a variety of majors and mid-tier companies including Barrick, BHP Billiton, LionOre and Newcrest. Since 2006 he has managed projects in Liberia, Guinea, Zambia, New Britain and PNG.

MOZAMBIQUE STAFF

ADRIANO OUANA

Chief Financial Officer

Adriano has been working with Battery Minerals since its incorporation as Chief Financial Officer, a role in which he manages all in-country accounts as well as supporting external auditing requirements. Adriano has been working in the financial sector in Mozambique since 2007 and is BAT’s principle interface with the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Commerce. His broad range of skills, which include legal fiscal management, commercial regulatory practice, national tax compliancy and transparency, underpins BAT’s national compliancy standards. Adriano matches BAT’s operational requirements with reliable financial deliverables. Having worked in several commercial spheres in upper management, Adriano also provides mentoring and leadership for all staff within BAT’s provincial offices.

JACKIE ROSE

Administration Manager

As Administration Manager, Jackie is responsible for all administrative and financial activities in Mozambique, including staff management, research and liaison with the Mozambique government. Jackie also leads community relations activities, working closely with the local government and communities near project sites. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics with minors in Computer Science and Spanish, and has extensive experience in the areas of Business Administration and International Education. She draws from a diverse background including her time as an Air Traffic Controller and Peace Corps volunteer. Furthermore, her trilingual skills and multitude of cross-cultural experiences assist her capacity to work effectively in multi-cultural environments.

JENIFA AISSA

Administration Assistant

Jenifa has been an administrative assistant for Battery Minerals since she joined the company in 2011. Her primary duties include translating documents, assisting with visa and work permits, producing letters, handling routine office operations, liaising with service providers and government entities, and providing financial and accounting support as needed. Jenifa has a Bachelor’s degree in English Teaching from Eduardo Mondlane University, and she has worked in the area of Human Resources since 2006.

 

MARIO TUTUMAL

Company Driver

Mario is Battery Mineral’s driver and courier – a position he has held since 2014. He supports the Mozambique office with a variety of tasks including the processing, delivery, and pick-up of letters, documents, and other items, as well as providing transportation to meetings and assisting with office purchases and errands. Mario has previously worked as an accounting assistant and sales promoter.
